Companion Care

Good company, and someone paying attention

Loneliness does real damage. Seniors who live alone eat less, move less and miss the small warning signs that something is changing. Adult children in Sacramento or San Francisco or just stuck at work in Playa Vista feel it too.

Companion Care from A Precious Elder

Quick answer

Companion care from A Precious Elder gives a senior living alone in the South Bay regular visits from a friendly, familiar caregiver for conversation, meals, errands, light housekeeping and outings, with a 4-hour minimum.

Companion care fixes the basics. A familiar caregiver comes on a schedule, shares a meal, gets your dad out for a walk on the Strand or to the Torrance farmers market, and tells you how he really seems. Many of our companion clients later add personal care with the caregiver they already know, which makes that transition painless.

Companionship questions

How many hours a week do companion clients usually book?

Most start with five 4-hour visits a week, which is our 20-hour weekly minimum. Four hours is enough for a meal, a walk and some conversation without feeling rushed. Families adjust up or down as needs change.

Can the caregiver drive my mother to appointments?

Yes. Caregivers can drive your mother in her car or, in many cases, their own insured vehicle, and stay with her at the appointment. Mileage is billed at the IRS rate when the caregiver's car is used.

Do you match personality, not just availability?

We do. A care coordinator meets your parent first, learns what they enjoy and who they get along with, and picks a caregiver on that basis. If the fit is wrong, tell us and we change it. No hard feelings.
